The “Warm Fuzzy” project...

Aubrie Kate is a night owl. We do the bedtime routine atleast 5x. read a book, kiss goodnight, give hug, pull up covers, shut the door....same thing...over and over again. We have tried everything in the book besides duct tape (because that's just....wrong) to keep her in the bed. NOTHING WORKS. and its not like she is crying...she just gets out and wonders the house. Once I found her on the couch watching info commercials, once in the laundry room....just wondering around...

Well-the other day I had reception duty during lunch at work...so I was pinning...when I stumbled upon this...

It was cute...I was intrigued. I got the idea to use this method with Aubrie. So yesterday off I went to the dollar tree to buy some warm fuzzies. 160 for 3 dollars-can’t beat it. I washed up an old pickle jar I was saving for another project-slapped on some scrapbook stickers and whala! Here we go.

I explained to Aubrie that she was now a big girl going to big girl school, taking ballet, in church choir...so it was important for her to start sleeping good at night to have energy...so if she stayed in bed and she slept all night, she would get a warm fuzzy for her jar. Also, if she would help mommy and sister by picking up (because this child thinks she hung the moon and cleaning is way beneath her) she could get a warm fuzzy. And when her warm fuzzy jar is full she can trade them in for a trip to chuck-e-cheese, chick-fil-a, yogn frut....where ever she wanted.

Well...when I said Chuck-e-cheese, her eyes lit up. She is OBSESSED with the mouse. She said "otay mommy!!! "

So bedtime rolled around and I did the routine...and left. About an hour later and came back in...surely she was in the litter box...or had decided to play wii.....wait! What?!?!

SHE WAS ASLEEP. IN HER BED. I kid you not.

I went to sleep last night waiting for her to stumble in my room....when I got up at 6 this morning...where was she??

IN HER BED! I AM PRETTY SURE THE ANGELS WERE SINGING!

So we are off to a good start! I am really hoping this positive reinforcement will work with her!

It was a big day!

Yesterday was a big day in our house for the girls!

First-the drama...
Madyson got in the car after school yesterday and just started bawling. she had gotten a purple face for talking (it goes green (good)...purple (warning)..etc.) It was horrible for her. She cried about how sorry she was she didn't get green and that she won't ever do it again. I couldn't help but snicker! I am surprise she lasted this long without getting one! (she is my child...) after a hug and "your going to make mistakes sometimes and thats okay....as long as we don't let our mistakes become our habits.." talk....she was much better.

Then the excitement....
Ballet started back yesterday!

And this little cutie was so excited! she has patiently waited 2 years as the "little sister" and now she is a "balareena"

Working on the KITCHEN

Yall- I am so excited! We have been busy busy busy working on the new kitchen. It feels like FINALLY this is coming together!

I am proud to say that the pantry is almost finished! The crown molding and light fixture have to be installed then I will reveal! So many people have asked what it looks like and the best description I can come up with is BOLD. Ill give you a teaser...Its Turquoise, Red, Green, Yellow, Stainless, Chevron, Sparkly. -=)

The kitchen is toned down but still fun! I am excited about organizing everything and having a place for it all! We did opt to go without upper cabinets. 3 reasons 1) I can't reach them...2) The more space you have to store stuff...the more stuff you have and I want it minimal. 3) Our kitchen is tiny and our budget didn't allow for the wall to be removed that we wanted so we had to keep the same floor plan. So I really wanted to keep it open...and plus...the pantry is 8ft by 12ft....so....it has plenty of places for the "extras" =)

Here is a little "BEFORE" picture...todd ripping out the cabinets!

preschool & marriage

Aubrie Kate started Preschool today! She has been in daycare and was in a 2 year old program but she is now officially a preschooler. She gets to go on field trips this year and do all sorts of fun things!

she wanted a picture with her "pack" so I handed it to her and she held her sign and smiled so big! I didn't fix her sign bc she did it herself. I really wanted this memory :)
I am so excited for her to be in preschool! She will also be starting Mission Friends, Ballet and Church Choir this year! Can't believe my baby is big enough for all this!

Yesterday was mine and Todd's anniversary! He finished my pantry! Now I just have to move in...and let me tell you...IT TAKES MY BREATH AWAY! we are suppose to go away for the night this weekend but I am so behind on cleaning and ready to get the kitchen done we might postpone it til next month! I can't believe we have been married for 6 years! It really has gone by fast. I love him more than I did that day and I am so excited to see what we have coming up in our lives!

The first day of school

Well-Today is the day I have been dreading for five years. My baby is officially a kindergartener. Around this time last year, I really began praying for God to show me how we were suppose to school Madyson. Like most of you know-she has an unique soul. I knew she needed to be in a group setting as opposed to homeschooling because she loves people and adores her friends. Since she was in preschool for 2 years-she had become adjusted to a classroom setting. But Private or Public schools? This is one of those "MOM DEBATES" we read so much about and personally....I didn't care. I wanted it to be Madyson's choice.  Both had tons of pros-and they both had a few cons. Todd was a private school kid....I was a public school kid. We both turned out great. So we began visiting local private schools and took a tour of the public school here in town. Madyson got to spend a day at each of the private schools and a tour of the public school. Last spring I asked her if she had made up her mind and she said I wanna go to the public school. When I asked her why it came down to a few things I thought were very interesting. 1) they have a cool playground. 2) they are ranked (and yes...she said ranked) as a high education school. 3) I like the mix of people...(meaning she like diversity) that was enough for me. I explained to her about being a Christian in a public school. That it wasn't going to be as open as a private school. She asked if there were Christian teachers in public schools and I told her yes, so she asked if she could have one. We prayed all summer about it...and Tuesday we discovered how God provides.

This morning she woke up to her alarm clock. Got dressed-ate breakfast-brushed her teeth and grabbed her teacher gifts, backpack, and lunch box. She was ready!

Here we are walking up the walk way to school. Usually you go through the "Kiss and Go Lane" but on the first day they let you walk the kids in.
This is her on the hall with her teacher gifts. I found a cute idea on Pintrest and spun off of it. She was so excited to take her teachers "happies" on the first day!
Outside her class room! She was ready to go! This was the point I was expecting her to cry or me too cry. I gave her a hug and in she went. "BYE MOM" I stopped her for one last hug and kiss...which she gave me (I think I will die when she is "too big" for that) and that was the start of the day!

I would have sat outside her room all day....just to watch. But Todd was with me and he hurried me out the door before I got emotional! (I am happy to report that no tears were shed) On the way out we ran into our sweet Gavin!
I am so happy he and Madyson are together this year!!! His parents are in our LifeGroup and they already see A LOT of each other :)

When school let out-I was in the car rider line waiting. I finally got to her and she hopped in and said, "IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! I AM GOING BACK TOMORROW"....good thing. I am hoping that this attitude stays for the next 12 years :)

Kindergarten Meet the Teacher!!!

We are so excited at The Broadus House!

Today-we had "kindergarten meet the teacher" day-where we go and see whose class we are in and who is in our class!!

My sweet friend, Darla-text me this morning and said "I wanna tell you who Madyson got" (you can tell she is an early riser-I was still doing makeup at this time!) I told her to go ahead and she said "Lets just say our kids are going to see A LOT of each other!" That was a great way to start the day-to know Madyson and her son, Gavin would be together. They are already like Brother and Sister.

so here we are with our school supplies (nap mat, 6 boxes of crayons, colored pencils, scissors, paper towels, manilla paper, water colors, markers......) can you tell she isn't use to getting up early anymore?

We get to school and find out she has Mrs. Douell and Mrs. Byrd~ We are very excited! Mrs. Douell goes to church with us and Mrs. Byrd is a friend of mine from years past. I know Madyson will have a great year! Also in her class is her friend Holly ( I work with Holly's Mom) and a friend from Pre-school Ian. Thursday is the BIG day -first day!!! More then!

i need a baby.

Thats about the sum of my thoughts at the moment.

I am in deep baby depression mode. Our homestudy was put on hold while our kitchen is being destroyed-then rebuilt. A great thing...but making the process longer....all while still holding on to the thought of my oldest girl starting kindergarten this week....and my youngest starting pre-k next week. I have been "pinning" all sorts of nursery ideas for when little one arrives! It is extremely fun planning for the unknown since more than likely we will get a call that says " Your baby (insert girl/boy) has been born and is ready for you to pick them up at the hospital"

Until then I will continue to rub every pregnant persons belly that I see-and offer to babysit strangers babies....just to soak in the thought of having another one!!!

so what have we been up to?

Wow-the past few weeks have been crazy. Lets start with July 15th-thats a good day.

We closed on our house!!! Finally! Most of you know we have been redoing my parents house for 2 years (while sharing the house) we have been busy busy getting things finalized for the end of the road! on July 15th-at 4:45 we officially became homeowners. Such a scary and exciting time. I literally almost through up at one point when they pull out that piece of paper that has the amount you "actually pay" at the end of your term-GAG! Todd just kept reminding me that "your kitchen remodel starts next week"...thats right! My ugly kitchen was going away-the final remodel of the whole house.....

well...the next week I had summer camp 8-5 everyday. We started cleaning out the cabinets and stuff at night then....thursday morning at camp I noticed my right leg was really sore. i mean really sore. it was red and hot...and it hurt. I called the doctor and he said "draw a circle around the spot...if it goes out of that circle come in" within 30 minutes-it was spreading. I left camp at 2:30 and went to the dr. office. where she drew another circle....and then left the room. When she came back (5 minutes) it was outside of that circle. So off she sent me to the emergency room. 3 hours later I am diagnosed with a spider bite on 12 pills a day-and on BED REST!!!! I missed my last day of camp-and my kitchen remodel got pushed backed more...bc I couldn't get off the couch.
on the way to the ER

By tuesday-I had hit another milestone in old age. I became a mini-van mom!!! We got an amazing deal on a Honda Odyssey so we went ahead and got it! I love my van. the doors automatically open and close and grocery shopping is a breeze!!!

By Wednesday of the next week I was doing alot better and that was good-bc I was flying to seattle the next day-by myself!! For my cousin's wedding! I was her matron of honor and I was so excited to celebrate with her! Todd and the kids stayed behind because of cost issues. (new house, new van, remodel...) They had fun during the week. They went and saw Winnie the Pooh at the movies and hung out alot with Todd's Parents!
me, aunt betty, kristie, and my mom at the rehearsal dinner

which brings us to now! I was off work Monday-recovering from cross country flying-then Tuesday  I worked all day! then yesterday-I went to work...then got the dreaded phone call from daycare. Aubrie Kate has the stomach bug!!! Ugh! So I left work came home-got her situated....a few hours later....Madyson joins the stomach bug party.....a few hours later...I join the stomach bug party!!!

So we are living on ginger ale and crackers at the moment. Hoping that this is the last roadblock in the kitchen remodel!
